Operations and HR Assistant

PROTECTING OUR ENVIRONMENT WITH INTELLIGENCE. The Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) is a 501(c)(3) independent, international advocacy organization based in Washington DC with a record of three decades securing systemic change to protect the Earth's environment. EIA has established unique methods, including pioneering the use of undercover investigations, to document environmental crimes and is currently on the vanguard of instituting historic environmental breakthroughs.

EIA is seeking to hire an Operations and HR Assistant in its Washington, D.C. office to support its programs. We are looking for a motivated, organized and committed individual to join one of the most dynamic teams in Washington today. The position will entail a wide range of activities, including:

• Provide administrative support, including data entry, filing, answering phones, data/spreadsheet entry, and general office support including IT.
• Maintains office supplies inventory, purchases and coordinating with vendors.
• Support day-to-day Human Resources matters including maintaining employee files, compensation and benefits administration, performance review process, hiring, health insurance, recordkeeping, orientation, training and other human resources related matters as they arise.
• Assist with preparing onboarding materials, posting job announcements and coordinating interview scheduling.
• Support and facilitate general office administration and facility management.
• Support with payroll processing and maintain/update employee benefits
• Regularly check PO Box; sort and distribute incoming mail, including fax
• Organize donor’s checks and routinely make bank deposits as needed
• Assist with coordinating events, including holiday party and monthly staff meetings
• Manage conference room scheduling
• Maintain filing systems and provide information management assistance.
• Conduct research and analysis on certain programmatic work as required.
• Support Executive leadership in liaising with the Board of Directors, including the preparation and dissemination of board meeting materials and scheduling of board meetings.
• Support EIA programs in day-to-day administrative and operational needs as requested
• Support finance team with various tasks including credit card reconciliations, staff reimbursements, spreadsheet reconciliation, etc.

• Bachelor degree in related field of Human Resources, management finance or business administration.
• Minimum of two (2) years demonstrated experience
• Experience with HR.
• Highly organized, with attention to detail, conscientious approach to work and the ability to proactively anticipate needs. Monitor and double-check work and information for accuracy and quality.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to effectively organize disparate information, multiple activities, and competing priorities
• Ability to anticipate, identify, and solve problems
• Ability to work both independently and with direction from more than one person
• Exceptional interpersonal skills – including an eagerness to engage with others and ability to work effectively with people in various locations
• Solid business sense and attention to detail
• Discretion and judgment in handling confidential or sensitive information
• Ability and willingness to work in fast-paced, demanding, and often changing environment with skill in managing multiple priorities
• Experience working in non-profits, social change work and/or progressive politics
• Language skills including Spanish and French are a plus
